Idea Update:

Lauryn and I have decided to abolish the initial idea of using double-exposure effect for the TV studio shoot as we have been informed by our teacher that it is too ambitious and will require many attempts, we therefore have mutually agreed to continue with the idea of projection art instead.

Progression Post: Gathering Our Footage

The majority of the footage for the music video has been shot and we have created files and backed them up, however we are intending to complete our third and final shoot of the male actor which is to be filmed in the college TV studio the following Thursday. We have compiled the majority of the video on the editing software (Premiere Pro CC), this is running smooth and so far we have had no complications with the audio or the visuals.

The feedback given regards minor issues- which included the ethical considerations of our music video as well including a signed release form (which is just a matter of scanning it for proof), both of these improvements were made as they are straightforward to complete.

I have now created the skeleton for for this task and now need to transfer the content to a creative technology and the deadline for this is the 30th of October, which gives me just under a week.

Lesson Update:

Our class discussed the codes and conventions of editing as this is the current position for most of us A2 media students. Previous Exemplar music videos of last years students were showcased, we discussed the positive elements as well as the negatives which I noted to try and incorporate and subvert this into my own project.

Weekly Meeting Objective:

To get a head start on editing the music video as well as creating folders for the footage and backing them up. Considering the fact that the majority of footage is completed I wish for my partner and I to get a head start on the foundation of the music video which has been planned out on a story board template as part of our pre-production. 

Leake Street Video Shoot (2) Evaluation

According to the tight production schedule, the meet-up time was 12:00, which happened without any dilemmas or issues, however the timing appeared to take a left turn during the preparation of doing our model, Sharn's makeup, we underestimated the time on the production schedule which caused us to be slightly delayed. On a more positive note, the makeup was coordinated with the outfit which was flattering the dark red theme was therefore continuous and gave a nice, consistent touch to the outcome. We went through a few practice runs to get in the mood and feel less restricted as well as adjusting the lighting and camera angles to suit Sharn. The video shoots ran smoothly and were impressed with the outcome, however we noticed that the borrowed college DSLR cameras were running low on power and we had already gone through one battery pack and therefore only had one more to spare. This lead us to rush and I feel as if it limited our potential, nevertheless we decided to prioritise the music video shots as it is the main element as we wished for it to be in the best quality. The camera eventually died, however we were fortunate as Lauryn had brought her Sony camera to film the 'behind the scene' shots. This enabled us to progress and shoot the CD cover still images which went well. Despite the delays, the day was successful and permitted us to make the most of the one day with our model and gather all our footage.

The emails with the crew introduced the concept and confirmed dates as the treatment and time schedule were attached, therefore the team had a clear understanding of the expectations for the pace and effort, hopefully resulting to an organised, structured day of shooting.

Photo/Video Shoot (1)- Shoreditch & Hackney Wick Evaluation

In order to have a wide selection and compiled range of graffiti shots to include in the music video, we took some shots in Shoreditch and hackney which was successful. The production schedule was helpful as it enabled my partner and I to be on track with shooting the locations with the same lighting as if it were to continue any longer the photos will vary with lighting as we decided to use natural lighting as it was mostly outdoors and didn't want to over-expose the shots. Overall, Lauryn and I were satisfied with shots and are prepared for tomorrows main video shoot. 

A2 Music Video Inspiration

As preparation for shooting the video footage, I watched multiple media student videos that are claimed to be marked highly-this enabled me to have a clearer understanding of expected quality and standards. I also observed  areas that work well as well as areas that could be improved from the point of view of a regular viewer. I also stumbled across students with a similar project as ours which features a performance based video with an urban aura as well as projections, this permitted me to broaden my knowledge and gain inspiration as the videos have the creative expression I wish to achieve. A feature that appeared to be a common trend in the student music videos were the channel style introduction and break bumpers, for example the MTV logo and song intro before displaying the song video itself. This feature adds a sense of professionalism and realism and therefore I plan to include it into my own.

Plans for Shooting Week Commencing 9th October

Lauryn and I have planned a convenient shooting weekend which will enable us to produce the majority of the shots for our project. On the Saturday approaching we will film our graffiti walls and urban art in Hackney using the colleges professional Cannon DSLR cameras as well as a tripod for stability. We plan to gather plenty of footage and then eliminate the videos we no longer want, therefore only using the best of our footage. This day will almost act as a 'trial run' and heads-up for the day after- where Sharn, our lip sync performer will be filmed in Leake Street and Westminster Bridge. This plan works out more convenient and time-efficient considering our actress is only available for one full day. Therefore we will have prior knowledge and would have discussed the day through in depth as well as being more confident in shooting the video.
